Shining like two amber lanterns, its eyes pierced the fragile darkness. A hazy cloud of brown fur swam above the beast—it grew larger with each ragged breath. Sticky slime oozed like tree sap out the twitching black nostrils. Hanging from the creature’s jowls, frothy yellow foam completed the crazed look. Soon the abomination noticed my gaze. Uncertainty thickened the air, giving each breath a molasses-like consistency. Fear had crept quietly upon us, cementing our feet to the cold earth.
